New law prohibits educational institutions to deny enrollments during year 2021

Dated today the Official Gazette published law N° 21.290 which prohibits government subsidised private educational institutions and paid private schools, to  deny enrollments for year 2021 to students presenting debts in the context of the financial crisis  due to Covid-19.

The new law states that “it will be considered, among others, that the financial situation of parents and guardians has been undermined in cases they have lost their jobs  as a consequence of the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) due to the outbreak of Covid-19, or if they are protected under law N° 19.728, which establishes an unemployment insurance, or law N° 21.227 which allows the access to unemployment insurance benefits of law N° 19.728,  in exceptional circumstances”.
